Dale Carey Virginia 16" f/4.5 His Meade Optics
"It was good meeting the maker of my new 16" truss at the Chiefland 2002 star party. I was a little concered at first because Jim looked much younger than I imagined. I knew the "other" makers were older and had been in the buisness longer.
*NOTE* I'm 38, how old do you have to be?... 8^)
As president of the local astronomy club I have been in and around scopes along time. We have members with the latest and greatest of just about everything. So let me tell people out there what I think about Nightsky Scopes. I won't talk mirrors because I had my own and I want to compare apples to apples.
1st, the mirror cell. What an improvement from the "sling" and I must admit, easier to get to and adjust than the starmasters. The 4 large handle screws make it fast and easy to take out, and carry it with the neat "handles" on the inside. Collimation handles are also large and easy to use.
2nd, truss poles. Another great change. 4 poles instead of 8. The welded triangle design makes life good. Very light and rigid.
3rd, the wood itself. You can tell the difference from a cabinet maker and a craftsman. Jim is a craftsman, he turned out a great looking scope. Corners, faces, bearings, all smooth as butter. Shines like the sun. I will and do set it beside any Obssesion or Starmaster out there.
I may have gotten scope #21, but it lookes like Jim has been making these forever. With the shroud, telrad and wheelbarrow handles this complete system is the best deal for the money out there.
Jim, all I have to say to you is, "thanks a million".
